‘Jurors’ are just a random selection of people. This makes it seem like people in general don’t understand why a sextape scandal isn’t as bad as building cars that will kill people as part of their normal operation, but you can’t render a judgement like that because people are individuals each with their own capacity for agency and reasoning.

The tape was shot in private
The tape was shared without consent
A judge told Gawker to take the tape down years ago, and Gawker said “LOLNO”

Other incidents notwithstanding (remember when they outed a guy for no other reason than to get clicks?).

The courts aren’t about what is right, its about what you can prove. Did Gawker knowingly violate Bollea’s privacy? Yes, that’s indisputable. Is GMs ignition switch to blame for every wrongful death suit? Not so clear. Its very difficult to piece together the cause of an accident from a destroyed vehicle, especially when the operator is dead.

No, you see, because Gawker is “rebel media,” and all other media is bourgeois propaganda, being accessory to the blackmail of an accountant is OK!

The only problem with the Gawker ruling was the absurd monetary award.
It should have been 1/10 of what was awarded... at most.

Do you think this situation could be remedied via derg?

In a better world that’s what they would’ve gone down for.
